Project Spotlight: Custom Timber Truss Entryway for Local Business

When a local business approached us with a vision to create a warm, standout entryway for their new location, we knew this project would require careful coordination and precision. Their goal wasn’t just curb appeal—it was making a strong first impression that reflected quality and craftsmanship. We were more than ready to deliver.

🧱 The Challenge: Build Something Functional & Striking

The client needed a custom timber frame structure that could integrate seamlessly into their building’s modern rustic design—mixing stonework, metal roofing, and natural wood tones. It had to be eye-catching, structurally sound, and capable of withstanding Minnesota’s weather extremes.

That meant:

  • Precise coordination with the general contractor
  • Millimeter-accurate joinery to fit pre-framed openings
  • Sourcing and drying the right logs ahead of time

✍️ Planning & Fabrication

Our team worked closely with the builder to design a full-scribed truss system using kiln-dried timber, which was both dimensionally stable and aesthetically rich. The main timbers were sawn, treated with our clear borate preservative, and pre-finished before ever reaching the job site.

We pre-fit all joints in the shop, including:

  • Saddle notches for post-to-beam connections
  • Hidden steel brackets for long-term durability
  • Clean transitions where timber meets stone veneer

The entire entry structure was delivered pre-numbered and pre-fit—reducing on-site install time and eliminating costly rework.

🪚 The Result: A Statement Piece That Elevates the Whole Property

As you can see in the photo, the finished product speaks for itself. The bold timber truss contrasts beautifully with the vertical lines of the metal roof and masonry base. More importantly, it gives the business a signature entrance—one that sets it apart from other commercial buildings in the area.

“This entranceway changed the entire feel of our business. People constantly comment on the craftsmanship—and that it just looks like quality.

– Business Owner

Whether it’s a residential cabin or a commercial office, we believe every entryway should feel like a welcome. This project is a great example of how the right materials and teamwork make that happen.
