Project Spotlight: Decorative Trusses for a Custom High-End Home
At Creative Log Structures, every truss we build is a balance of form and function—and this home is the perfect showcase of both.
When the homeowner began designing this stunning custom home, they knew they wanted timber elements that would stand out architecturally while still serving a structural role. We collaborated closely with the builder and designer to bring their vision to life with a pair of beautiful, custom log trusses.
🏡 Two Trusses, Two Statements
This project featured two signature trusses:
- One over the entryway, giving visitors an unforgettable first impression
- One in the front gable peak, subtly anchoring the roofline and tying the exterior together
Each truss was designed for visual balance, proportioned to match the roof pitch, and cut from kiln-dried timber in our Bemidji shop.
🔨 Our Process
We began with CAD-based renderings to ensure exact alignment with the home’s framing and roof slope. Once approved, our team milled, scribed, and assembled each timber in-house before finishing with a rich stain to contrast beautifully with the home’s siding and stonework.
- Joinery: Mortise & tenon with concealed steel brackets for strength
- Finish: Custom brown-black tone to match window trims
- Material: Kiln-dried, borate-treated Douglas Fir for long-term stability
By handling every stage in-house—from cutting to finishing—we were able to maintain tight tolerances and eliminate surprises during installation.
